Friday 26 May 2006

Coach Taalat Youssif was the winning scorer in an epic Egyptian Cup final against Al Ahly when he was a midfielder with Itthad, the famous club from wonderful Alexandria. The El Gouna FC website met Mister Youssif after Friday's training session.

'Well, El Gouna FC are a very competitive side with a lot of second division experience. They frightened the life out of Itthad in Alexandria in the Egyptian Cup a couple of years ago when they really put is to the test, even as a third division club. They nearly missed out on promotion in the recent play-offs and they will prove to be a hard nut to crack I'm sure".

'What game plan may we expect from Itthad?'

'We will have to find a very delicate balance between offensive and defensive play. I wouldn't be surprised if El Gouna were focused on counter-attacks so we have to be very careful out there.'

'Are we going to see tight zone marking or man-to-man tactics?

'We will approach the game as it comes with the emphasis on trying to balance out defense and offense'

'You have been mixed up in the African Confederation Cup and a poor run in the Momtaz. With all due respect, Itthad haven't been particularly successful this season.

'Well, to be quiet honest, the contracts of the nucleus of the team have expired and we will see an exodus by the end of the season. It effects concentration. And dedication. There is room for improvement when it comes to focusing and concentrating'

'What's your biggest concern for tomorrow, Mr Taalat?'

'The most important thing is spirit. I can have eleven players out there. They may be physically present but it is the spirit that counts.'

'Well, captain Taalat, you would expect your players to be very eager to win for the club's reputation and their own reputation'
'Exactly,'

'Thank you very much Mister Taalat for dedicating your time to El Gouna FC'.
'With all due pleasure'.

Coach Taalat has a full and fit squad: Samir Ashour, Rami Said, Mohamed Nagui Geddo, Youssef Abdel Rehim, Said Abdel Aziz, Ibrahim El-Shayeb, Samuel Tyra, George Jashwa, Mohamed El-Yamani, Mohamed Farouk, Talat Youssif, Hossam, Abdel Menhem, Youssef Tahar, El Hany, Ahmed Zadr, Hasseen Fahmi, Sameh Hagraz, Gharib Fathi, El Sadeq, Said Abdel.

El Gouna FC's coach Mohamed Abdel El Sameh opts for a careful approach wit a full and fit squad. 'This is a big game for us after the disappointing play-offs. There is a lot at stake with Al Ahly as a potential opponent in the next round'

'We will go in to this game, carefully scanning Itthad's game plan from our own half with focus on zone defending. I don't believe in tight man-to-man marking. We should be able to break out with counter attacks.

Ahmed Fekry's header in the 10th minute set El Gouna FC cruising for a fine 1-3 home victory over Nil Sohaq at the Estad Sohaq. Please read match report in The League & The Cup.

The play-off match between Petrol Assyut and Telefonad Beni Suef was called off by the referee before a ball was even kicked because of absence of 'governemental policing'. Assyut's ground is set within the Petrol company's premises and one would need a tank and armed cohortes to get illegal access to the field with no governemental police in sight. So their absence seems highly unlikely as a legitimate excuse to call off any match within the boundaries of the Petrol company. We'll see where we go  from here.

Tuesday 21 March 2006

El Gouna FC are traveling today to recharge their batteries after last Wednesday's sour defeat. Right back. Hesham Zinhom tells the website: "We felt an enormous pressure going into the play-offs against strong opposition. Petrol had the better of the first half and were more consistent. They handled the strong wind much better than we did in the second half. On loan striker Jorge Celino adds: "This result should put the club with both feet on the ground. We've seen too much playing with hearts instead of heads. They have got to learn to cope with conditions on and off the field they are not used to"

Hesham Zinhom continues: "Regardless of refereeig decisions we should keep our heads cool. The atmosphere has been pretty down over the past few days, but we must keep faith. We must learn to be more critical instead of blaming conditions that are not in our hands. We are no longer looking back, but ahead. It's a psychological step for us I am sure we will bounce back from"
